My family is about to stage a revolt against me. It's been brewing for a while. I fear by the end of the month I will have been voted out of the family. What I have done to deserve such a fate you ask? Well, it started with a cake. Allow me to explain...
For the past 4 years my main hobby has been baking. I bake from scratch. I've even made my own butter for a pound cake recipe I developed. I love labor intensive activities, and let me tell you, there is nothing more labor intensive than making your own bread, from scratch, by hand!
However, now that I'm in school again, I just don't have time to devote to developing recipes and spending six hours in the kitchen anymore. My family is having a very hard time adjusting to not having homemade cinnamon rolls for Sunday breakfast, freshly baked yeast rolls with dinner, and four layer coconut crème cake for dessert (for this cake I actually milk the coconut.) They've had enough, and they are being very vocal with their displeasure.
I've tried to make peace by bringing store-bought breads and desserts home, but they aren't buying it. They want the real thing. I haven't baked since August 30th (I know the exact date because my family reminds me quite often.) I know my family is ecstatic that I'm in school, and are very proud of me. I know all of the pestering and complaining is all in good fun, and they would never want me to neglect my school work just to bake a cake for them. That's why I love them so much.
So, this weekend since my school work is kind of light, I'm going to bake until I run out of flour. I know they'll appreciate it. And that makes it worth all of the effort.

I like to bake too! But you do it better by making things from stratch, that takes hard work! I know how your family feels, because my whole life my mother cooked everyday of the week just about. People use to tell me I was lucky because I had a mother that cooked on the regular. Now I have to cook for myself and I have alot of school work, so you know how that goes. You spoil your family with food! That is a good thing, but complaints will come when you take away what they use to have an abundance of! I'm sure you will make up for it during the holidays!
That's incredible how you've developed all your recipes and make your own butter! It seems you've created a monster hehe, your family will never bee satisfied with store bought baked goods ever again. Happy baking!
You are going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to baking. I cannot believe that you make your own butter. Just the other day my daughter told me that she wants me to make a cake from scratch. It has been years since I have baked anything from scratch. I may give it a try during the holidays.
I love to cook too, and my family loves anything I cook. When I was a little I use to try out new recipes on my brothers. They were my best guinie pigs. I try to cook as much as I can for my daughters and their families. I've had to cut back though because of school and work. It's hard to find the time. Sometimes I take a weekend and just cook up a lot of casseroles, soups, stews and freeze them. I don't know how well this would work with baked goods because cakes, pies cookies and breads are always best right out of the oven... I'm getting hungry!
I enjoy BBQ and make it a priority to do it as often as possible, even year round. I find it relaxing and enjoy the looks of appreciation from my family. Enjoy the "heat" in the kitchen:)
I love to bake--breads, muffins, anything--also from scratch. The problem is I never get to enjoy it because my friends expect me to share, which is fine. Keeps me from gaining too much weight. I also make my own jams and jellies. The mayhaw and strawberry are favorites, but the rosemary jelly has its own following. Hey, if they'll do your other work for you...just kidding!
