Rainy Days and Mondays.....

I was just wondering......am I the only one that loves rainy days and Monday's?

I'm one of those strange people that actually prefers rainy, gloomy, cloudy days instead of sunshine and blue sky's. I've always been that way. As a child, in the morning when one of my parents would wake me to get ready for school, my first question would always be, "Is it gonna rain today?" If the answer was "yes" I would jump out of bed and organize my rain boots, raincoat, and matching umbrella. I was always prepared for a downpour, or maybe a monsoon is more accurate.

Now that I'm an adult, the possibility of a rainy gloomy day, is enough to make me downright giddy. My perfect rainy day activity is to curl up on the couch with a good book (usually something classic and British), or a really long, equally gloomy movie. Tomorrow, since it will be raining (according to Channel 12 weather), and I don't have class on Friday's, I will be enjoying the gloom, by watching my absolute favorite version of Jane Eyre on DVD. What's more perfect than watching Jane Eyre pining for Mr. Rochester, and walking around lost over moors in the rain? Plus, this version is almost 4 HOURS long! That's some good stuff!

My friends think my love of the rain is kind of strange. They say it doesn't fit with my personality. My family believes that my love of the "dark and gloomy" comes from me being born during a thunderstorm. Whatever the reason, the joy I feel on a cloudy day is here to stay.

I also love Mondays. The dreaded return to the work/school week has always been a source of pleasure for me. I believe if I have a good Monday, it will set the tone for the rest of the week. My mother taught me this as a way to get me to stop complaining every Sunday night about returning to school the next day when I was in Kindergarten. It worked, and it has stayed with me. While everyone else is dragging their feet to class on Monday morning, I have a pep in my step, and a smile on my face. I am always mindful to make Monday as positive and successful as possible. I also try to drag other people along with me on my positive crusade, most of the time it works.

So, even though I love this song by The Carpenters, Rainy Days and Monday's never get me down. How about you?

Thanks for Reading,
Kourtney Washington

I also enjoy rainy/gloomy days, but not when I have school because it makes me sleepy! I don't have class today though, so I'm still in bed while I write this and I'm loving the weather! I did hours of homework yesterday so I could relax today which I'm really enjoying so far. Hope you have a great day as well! =)

I love rainy days. I sleep better through thunderstorms than I do when its clear outside. I also love to drive in the rain while I'm listening to something ambient music. Its so calming.

Mondays, not so much though. Monday is our busiest day at work so its always super-hectic.

P.S. I love that song but never knew who it was by. Thanks!

Kourtney,
Although our views on the rain are different, I can certainly understand yours. Different opinions are, after all, what make this such an interesting world to live in. Imagine how boring life would be if we all shared the same views on things. I will be practicing your mother’s lesson on getting motivated for Mondays. I love my job and Monday is the busiest day of the week for us. Sometimes I get tired just thinking of everything that has to be done and that does not include all of the unexpected issues that are sure to arise. I really like your analogy on setting the tone for the rest of the week and cannot wait to try it.

I like the rain as long as I don't have to get out in it. It makes me want to stay in bed all day.

I need to use your Monday concept on my kids, especially my son. I'm going to see if I can get them to have a little pep in their step come Monday morning.

Not only do I like rainy days, but I like to sit on my porch and hear it really coming down. I enjoy lightning and thunder too. KSLA is the best when it comes to weather. I generally do not like Monday's though you can have those.

I love rainy days! And even to play in the rain is faaaaantastic! People have a tendency to stare when I'm soaked, tho =P

Now...I do not prefer them over sunshiny days...I just take them as they come =P I get the same feeling of a cool, sunny day as you do over a rainy one.

And Mondays have never bothered me! I enjoy my job, and most of the times my classes, so it has never been a problem for me. I'd have people mention a sad note about being Monday and get a stare when I say "Isn't it grand?!"

Strange folks are ze bomb! >:D

Thanks for the song, Kourtney!

Rainy days give me permission to stay in my pajamas all day. And I, like you, like to watch something British and gloomy on those days, too!

Hooray for rain!

@ Christie- I agree with you about rainy/gloomy days when I have to go to school. Statistics Class + Gloomy Weather = A very sleepy Kourtney! LOL

@Howsh- You’re welcome for the song. The Carpenters rock! I have a very eclectic music sense. My IPod has a mix of The Beatles, Jay-Z, Fiona Apple, The Roots, and The Ting Tings at the moment.

@Denise- I hope the “Positive Monday” advice from my Mom helped. I’ve been doing it since I was five years old, so it’s pretty much a part of me.

@Jennifer- I hope the “Positive Monday” advice from my Mom helped with your kids too. It’s become a habit for our family at this point. It’s hard being a kid, setting a tone for the week on Monday helped me out a lot.

@BullDaddy-LOL, I’ll keep the Monday’s and you can keep the sitting on the porch in the rain. I’d much prefer reading a book, or watching a movie, inside where it’s dry, safe, and warm. LOL

@WateryPhoenix- I might give playing in the rain a try, the next time there’s a downpour. I don’t think I’ve done that since I was a kid.

@dotsmom/Ms. Smith- You’re welcome for the song. I think my next rainy day movie will be the classic version of Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy); does it get any better than that? :)

@Tammy- Wow, I forgot all about a dessert. I will definitely be adding that to my next rainy day list! Maybe giant, chewy, chocolate chip cookies? Now that’s some good stuff!
