Hello Everyone from ENGL 226,"I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit
bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and
the fear,
Finding myself making every possible mistake."
This is a lyric from Yael Naim's song, "New Soul." (you know, that song from the Apple commercials. ) I think that it sums up how I feel about being a transfer student. LSUS can be intimidating to someone who has been at a community college for the last few years. I'm excited to be a student at LSUS because with my enrollment, I am able to check one more thing off my "Life Goals" list.
My list is varied, and ranges from vitally important to completely silly goals. But they are goals nonetheless. My list has things like: owning my own business, meeting Oprah Winfrey, finish knitting a sweater I started for my father in 2006, making a difference in someones life, reading all of Jane Austen's published work (I've got 3 more books to go), eating the perfect cheeseburger, and to continue to grow spiritually. As of Monday, "transfer to LSUS" will be scratched off my list.
I have to admit, I'm anxious about finding my way around campus, I have an awful sense of direction. But I'm excited to meet my instructors and fellow students. I actually got a rush of enthusiasm yesterday at Wal-Mart when I was buying some school supplies. I remember feeling this same way when I was in elementary school. I live in Minden, a small town. So, when August would roll around, and my summer vacation was almost over, I remember dreading having to say goodbye to the freedom of Summer. But I also remember being really excited to see Fall. To me, Fall means football games, the Parish Fair, parades, the Red River Revel, short days and long nights. Fall is my favorite time of year. This year I am really happy that I will be spending my Fall at LSUS.
Thanks for Reading,
Kourtney

Hey Kourtney!
Where are you transferring from? Just curious. Also, don't worry, LSUS is extremely easy to find your way around. You'll do fine! I'm a huge fan of the song at the beginning of your blog, btw. Anyway, just checking out the other sites!

Congrats on checking LSUS off of your list and good luck with your other goals!
If you meet and become friends with Oprah one day, tell her I'll be her friend too =)

I have an awful sense of direction, too! I still get confused with the numbering in the hallways...but you will get used to it! Especially after the first week or two of going to the same classes! ^_^
GL with the knitting! I don't think I have the patience for such a thing.
LSUS is really a great school. You get a wonderful education and meet a ton of interesting people. I really think that you will like it a lot. And the teachers are absolutely amazing (at least the ones that I have had so far!).
I noticed you like cheeseburgers. One of my favorites is Vickie's restaurant in Bossier City. Their burgers are great. If you haven't tried them just make sure you have a big appetite or take a friend to split one. Yes, they are enormous.
Welcome to LSUS.
If you think LSUS is big, try navigating the campus in Baton Rouge!

@ Imperiuum/Rachel- I'm transferring from BPCC. And now that I'm 3 weeks in, I'm finding LSUS to be wonderful. Everyone is friendly and the campus is really easy to navigate.
@ Christie- Thanks for the well wishes! And when me and Oprah are bestfriends, I'll make sure to invite you to a party or something! LOL!
@ WateryPhoenix- Yeah the first week, the numbering and the hallways were a little confusing. But now I know my way to my classes and to the parking lot. That's it! LOL Oh, and thanks for the well wishes about the knitting. I love it! But I have to be in the mood to do it. Unfortunatly for my dad, I haven't been in the mood for a few years. LOL
@Landon- You're so right!! I'm very happy with my choice to attend LSUS. So far, so good!
@ Bulldaddy44- I've never been to Vickie's but I'll be there before the month's over!! I've been known to travel quite a distance for good food, especially cheeseburgers! Thanks for the tip!
@Dotsmom/Ms. Smith- I'm sure I would need a map, a tour guide, and a GPS system to find my way around that campus. LOL
